Suddenly, the dolphins got more active. Some still swam in close circles around Matt and the two girls. Some dove under their feet. Some loudly slapped their tails against the top of the water. Rob understood why the dolphins were frantic. So did Matt. But it was too loud to explain to the terrified girls. All that was left to do was wait things out and hope for the best.

Almost as quickly as the commotion started, things began to calm down. The dolphins loosened the circle around Nicole, Karina, and Matt. Most of them eventually swam away. Rob and Helen made their way back to the other swimmers. Luckily for them, the great white shark had swum away. It must have decided not to take on so many large dolphins. It was hungry, but not that hungry!

Matt’s co-worker rushed the rescue boat to the swimmers’ side. Everyone made it safely to the shore. It had started out as a great day for a swim. Now it still was a great day, thanks to the heroic action of so many brave dolphins.
